Featured Victorian/Georgian style chandelier earrings

Can’t figure these out. Searching suggests Victorian/Georgian style chandelier earrings, but construction and markings don’t seem that old to me. The black stones I believe are glass. The many
deeply set rose cut clears I’m not sure about. Some test as sapphire, some diamond on my Presidium tester, but they are very hard to test because of the cut and deep setting, so am taking those results with a grain of salt.

Both are marked on the bottom of the lever back mechanism. Looks like 60032 or G0032 on top and underneath that, 925 A, with perhaps something illegible after the A.

Hoping the wisdom of this Board can help me out with these! Thanks for any thoughts.

Agree. I seem to remember that those omega hinged backs were first used ca 1920. I see them mostly on nice quality Continental European earrings from the 1930s-1950s.
So the back is called omega hinge. Leverbacks have a single 'lever' with a small hole in it. The post clicks into the hole in the lever, whereas the omegas press the earring to the earlobe, just like an earclip

They look Central European, but I wonder if the marks are Italian.

Could be AR, for Arezzo, Italy.

Yes, very difficult to test. The cut is called 'senaille', which has fewer facets than rose cuts. Senailles are not very valuable, just look pretty, so I wouldn't worry about it.
What you have are beautiful and good quality chandelier earrings, probably Continental European.

 

Dang, they are super cool. I would have grabbed them too. Definitely have some quality.

So the small stones popped out? I wonder what happened?

 

Looks like only one is missing, the rest are still there.

As usual AJ, great info and much appreciated. And a good eye to catch that 1 missing stone!
I was not familiar with senaille cut stones, and can see now they are simpler than rose cut. It seems like there is so much work in these earrings, with all the tiny little settings. The stones do give it a nice sparkle.

I'm sure you don't notice it when the earrings are worn. And if a future owner wants perfection, it can be replaced at very little cost.

I have known these to be also called 'French clips.'

 

They are both the same. I thought the little hook at the end of the post was odd, but I tried them on and they went on and off easily.

 

I have several omega and post earrings myself, and that is what they look like.

I see them mostly on Austrian and German earrings. But then French jet is usually Bohemian glass, so I guess Central Europe is actually part of France. Don't tell the Central Europeans.

 

The few pairs of earrings I have with omega clips were made here in the US & have the same kind of posts as on other post earrings. I have seen Soviet era earrings with posts more like this.

Seems like anything a bit exotic to an English speaker must necessarily be French, including fried potato sticks.

 

My drag friends used to call these 'shoulder dusters' . I always wonder how women wear things like these,they must be so heavy !

 

I wonder sometimes, too. I can't wear them due to a metal allergy, so never tried it!
