    Hi Everybody!

My neighbor got this bowl as a wedding gift form a fancy relative. She's wondering what it might be. I know nothing about pottery, ceramics, porcelain etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
It's not too heavy, looks like some sort of clay to me maybe? About 8" in diameter x 2.5" height.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!! 1000036343.jpg 1000036344.jpg 1000036345.jpg 1000036346.jpg

    Welcome Kate
Google search comes up either Aztec or Maya.
Your neighbor should have it personally inspected by a professional though to be certain.

Thank you!!! I really appreciate the help!
    So, pre-Columbian, Maya or Aztec.

I know, right?! People are strange.
It is cracked a bit, but still a nice piece.

These bowls are Maya, not Aztec.;)
Looks good to me, but as Mikey said, it is best if your neighbour has it checked hands on by an expert.

Maybe you and your neighbor could visit fancy pants estate (or at least check her dumpster !).
    Def one exotic wedding gift.

Back in the 1990s, my husband and I received an odd wedding gift from an eccentric couple that were distant relatives of his. It was a vintage pair of brass bird figures and a brass spittoon, all wrapped up together. Forever after, we joked about "two birds and a spittoon" whenever unwrapping oddly-shaped gifts.
I always wondered if they just grabbed something last minute from their basement storage and wrapped it up.

A spittoon : "odd" is being generous. The birds were ahead of their time; brass birdies were white hot recently. Maybe they thought the wedding date was 2025?
