    I would say they are in a closed back setting rather than that they have a metal coating. Think you are correct, though, that this probably indicates they are not actual stones, but they could be crystal. Good sparkle?

    I'd almost bet on Made in USA; that's an American style patent number on the clip itself.

    the mark on the clip part is just a metal/patent type mark, so wonder if the clip parts were made separately

    Modern jewellers typically buy findings - the metal hardware bits, such as clasps - from other companies that make them.

    You see that type of mechanism a lot on convertible pieces that can be a brooch or 2 clips. The Coro brand name 'Duette' is often used for any such piece.

    I own far too much of that turquoise resin chip stuff. Ma used to buy it in the sixties and I’m rather fond of it. I’ve some in white metal, some brass. Not seen a dress clip, but that looks like some earrings I own.

    That's a quite cool memory Bear. He sure seemed like a sweet down to earth guy ( not that i know nuttin'). The thing about a Pratchett book is it was light amusing fare that also completely took you away from the run of the mill BS for a few hours.
    PS-The chap def has his own immortal niche,bit like Tolkien or Stephen King, and his fans are just as deeply devoted.

    vimes suddenly had a brain wave :woot:..............Ebay :watching::couchpotato::pics::woot:

    he found a very good pair of doc martens (not exactly what he wanted....but close:shifty:)

    more expensive than a £10 pair, but cheaper than a £50 pair...........interesting:link:

    .......he ended up spending a little more than he wanted :( (outbid)

    and came a day late (so had to wear the worn out cheap ones that day)

    worse things though...............WAY to tight :(:(:(:(
    even worser...........................Bad stitching :shifty::shifty::shifty::shifty:

    and adding the postage costs into the equation (worked out about the same as the 50s in the end)

    an absolute ruddy bloody waste a time :(:(:(

    :playful:;):)
