Hello everyone, I wonder if these bronze figures look familiar to anyone? They are not marked. They are solid bronze and are 5 3/4" tall. One woman is brushing her hair and the other is holding a vessel. The bases are interesting. Asian or Middle Eastern? Thanks for any help you can give.

They may be decorative chinoiserie. The styles seem to be a bit of a mash-up. The shoes look Chinese, the stands Indian or Middle Eastern, the woman on the left looks like someone's idea of India, the one on the right looks like she is trying to be Japanese.

Ditto 2many-Does look like perhaps a bit of MCM Exotica 'mash-up'. Got the Modigliani stretch to the anatomy, being solid bronze and perhaps being vintage, I'd keep looking for the teensy sig/initials.

I'm with 2many, these look made in the West, inspired by Asian tradition. The faces look European, but the clothing looks Chinese.

The one on the left looks like Guanyin, with the jewel on his/her head, carrying the vase with the water that he/she pours out over the world for salvation. The hood or veil over the head is one of the ways Guanyin is portrayed.

The one on the right has elements of Guanyin, like the wide gown with the long plunge down the chest.
However, I have never seen Guanyin brushing his/her hair. That is something that is often seen on Balinese figurines.

So they are mostly based on Guanyin.

IMG_0612.jpeg Here's a picture of the back - showing a decorative short robe on the Japanese-looking woman and a traditional long robe on the Guanyin-like woman. The short robe has what looks like an embroidered eagle which reminds me of Chinese medallions. Also, re: Modigliani appearance, they are 5.5" tall and thin but heavy and fit perfectly in my hand. The base reminds me of a pipe tamper but it's too big to fit in a traditional pipe and there is no residue from tobacco. Thanks for all your great comments!

The short robe is an indication that she is also meant to be Chinese, just like the Guanyin-like figure.
