I just wanted to share this find as I feel that it is a rarity. Standing 24 cm tall it is a Paris Porcelain veilleuse or tea warmer.

This architectural type is found in a number of varieties and this one is a depiction of a French ballad C'est la mère Michel (also known as Le chat de la mère Michel or La mère Michel) is a traditional French song that features a verbal exchange between an old woman (mère Michel) and her neighbour Lustucru about a lost cat.

The cat sits on the roof.

Although the cat and the hat are damaged, what I love about this piece is the decoration. I found one other example where the body is simply decorated as a country cottage but this is ornately decorated with a fabulous chinoiserie style decor.

That's officially goofy. No wonder I like it - especially the cat!

Wow! I really like this tea warmer. I assume you put a tea lite candle in the bottom to keep the tea warm? What a day! I've discovered 2 things that I've never seen before, this lovely tea warmer and cxgirl's Birch Bark Biting framed art.

I sold it on eBay with my usual 99p start and it sold for only £17 Amazing that it did so badly. I expected about £150!

That happens, unfortunately. Where you ADORE the item and only get enough for it that suggests you should have kept it for yourself. Oh well, at least you don't have to store it. Also, my experience is that folks want their 100+ YO antiques to be just perfect, like the original owner never used it and saved it just for them.
