Interesting. The handles appear to be Sphinxes -

Art Deco. In what part of the world did you find them? And what do you know about them?

I live in Czech republic and my grandpa got them when he was younger from someone from France.

Now that is what I would like for my house: Sphinx door handles (and a Medusa door knocker). Those are true "statement pieces."

Wrap em up for me please-Art Deco Egyptomania. Leave it to Bohemian or Parisian Deco/Nouveau to totally blow our minds !
I'd say museum-quality,Gramps had superb taste.
I used to 'collect' antique hardware in the 60's as a teen from abandoned buildings.
Needless to say, never saw anything like this in Northern California. Just as likely to find a Hector Guimard bus stop there !

I'm thinking along the same line as Bosko69. I like them.
When was Egyptian revival period.......??? Could have been made then.
Be sure to look them over carefully for a maker's mark.

Egyptiana surfaced when Napoleon conquered Egypt in 1798 and brought ancient spoils back to Europe, then returned w/ the discovery of Tut's tomb.

My G**! How in the world did you find that? 1901. "Notably, the building is adorned with a sphinx-shaped key and handle, symbolizing the protection of wealth and secrets."

Those doorknobs would look good on a Masonic Temple.

Thats CRAZY! I tried to look everywhere for them and couldnt find anything. My grandpa wanted me to find what they are worth today and sell them. But i might just keep them and use them for my future home as they look fabulous.

They belong in a museum. What year did your grandfather buy them? They may very well have been stolen.
