hi everyone. this is another one of the paintings i bought years ago out of a thrift store and filed into the back of my closet. i think it's a nice modern art version of a Southwestern Mesa painting--probably amateur, possibly not. i've never been able to make out the signature or mark. the date appears to be 1962 or maybe 1965. the board measures 18"x24". also, that's shadow on the right side of the painting. any help with figuring out who might have done this will be greatly appreciated...thanks

I'm doubtful that's an amateur work. To my eye, the artist accomplished all he set out to do. May be a student work though. I'm only finding 1960s mentions of that manufacturer online. Company owned by Binney & Smith. Trademark registered 1965 but didn't expire until 2006. Still, think an earlier logo.

i think the artboard logo art could easily be from the early or mid 60s. i've never seen it before, but that just suggests to me it's a little older too. also, as i look at the date again, now i'm seeing possibly 1963.

If this is correct, your date would likely be 1964 at the latest. ("Would likely be" acknowledges that there might have been some retailer stock printed with the old manufacturing site that continued to sell through past the relocation.)

thank you, that's helpful in pinpointing that it's midcentury, but certainly old stock would have been available for at least several years after the company was sold. i'm not married to the "6" in my dating of this piece either. that's just what it looks the most like to me. also, i wanted to mention, i misspoke when i described this as "probably amateur." when i found this i thought it had a nice, true artistic quality to it. i wouldn't have bought it otherwise. i guess the real question is, is this a valuable painting. i just hate to put it in such crass terms.

Not sure "several years" but, yes, old stock would certainly be around after the move.
