This table has been in my partner's family for at least 70 years, and Table7R.jpg likely longer. It is unknown where it was purchased, but spent the entire time on Staten Island, NY. It measures 48" in diameter by 29.5" tall. There are no marks or labels visible. The artwork appears to be Chinese characters and looks to be both painted and hand carved. It has two drop leafs that are held up when the legs are swung out. Table1R.jpg Table2R.jpg Table3R.jpg Table4R.jpg Table5R.jpg Table6R.jpg Table7R.jpg Table9R.jpg

Thank you in advance for any help!

It is a Gate Leg Table. Popular in the 17th & 18th C, they were made in many different styles. Others here will know more about yours.

Chinoiserie...... ( perhaps ..) is a European decorative style inspired by Chinese, Japanese, and more East Asian art forms. Beyond the textbook definition, it feels straight out of a designer's sketchbook with signature gleaming lacquer, and ornamental landscapes.

As above but likely American in origin. Style of the characters suggests post-WWII. They are decals, though there are some hand painted embellishments. Not sure where you are seeing carving. The surface is alligatored, which is a finish degradation due to improper storage.

Looks like there are raised lacquer areas, for instance the rocks and at least one of the buildings.

I was on my phone before and couldn't see them. I can see them now on my PC. These are probably gesso appliques. Can't say I have ever seen that on a table top before.
