I figure this $1 thrifted piece is a goldtone Indian special,but-a rube like me never knows-esp when it comes to jewelry. At any rate I like it's somewhat Etruscan Revival vibe, and hey-it's a buck ! Thin hollow tubing (bent-up),weighs 12g,2 11/16" across. All opinions welcomed-thanks All.
My first impression was exactly that: a piece of .. . costume thing. But I really know basically nothing..
You did very well, bos. It is indeed Indian, I would say Rajasthan, but I would have to check. The gilded ones are usually gilded silver. It is missing a few stones, small garnet cabs would fit nicely. Many old cultures share similarities.
Thanks all for the FB,I'll check on the Rajasthan pieces AJ. Even tho clueless,I do like jewelry.Found this in a tiny quiet Charity. The larger thrifts can be a bit intimidating-folks really mob-up at the joolie case (help !), especially when it takes me 5-10 times longer than the Pros !
What she said. The metal looks soldered instead of cast, and that ball thingie has dents. I would be hoping for gold but expecting silver. Brass doesn't dent like that.
Well there you go,well done and good buy then (Iam obviously clueless, but that’s mostly the norm anyway )
Thanks for the FB Ruth-the thinness of the metal's gauge and dents got me suspicious too.Yep, gold would be thrilling, but silver also delightful. I'll take it by a jeweler, or better yet-a refiner perhaps ? PS-I'm on the same expertise level as you Bol.
Around here only people with business ID can use refineries. If you just want the metal tested, any old pawn shop will do. Jewelers who buy gold and silver offer better rates most of the time, but some pawns pay cash.
Just went to a local refiner last month w/ a beat-up 14K watchfob...'bout ready to pull my gold fillings out ! -needless to say,I was pleased, and no bus license needed, just official identification.
