This is Islam. I had a hunch that it was originally a piece from some ancient chess set.

I know the material is different, but wonder if the purpose is the same.

 

It appears to be solid/filled - is that correct?

 

If it's only 2.5cm, it might be an earring dangle or a pendant that got loose. (that's an inch to us non-metric types. That size in solid metal could be too heavy for an earring, but would work handily on the end of a bookmark.

 

Wonder if it could have been a weight for a balance scale.

It almost looks Indo-Persian from the decoration, but the shape is right for a weight.
