    Hi Guys

I’m hoping someone might be able to help me pin down the period of this ring, or let me know if you’ve seen anything similar before.

It’s an 18ct gold ring with a pearl in the centre, flanked by two pear-shaped sapphires, and surrounded by old-cut diamonds. All the stones test as what they should be, and the band is stamped 18CT. The construction looks hand-done, with an open gallery underneath and milgrained bezels around the sapphires.

I’ve attached a bunch of photos showing the front, back and hallmark. I’m trying to work out whether this is late Victorian, Edwardian, or possibly a later piece done in an older style. If anyone recognises this sort of layout or has seen similar examples, I’d really appreciate your thoughts.

And also do we think it’s 18ct yellow gold and platinum or maybe gold and Silver also a possibility if Victorian

    Thank you ☺️

It is lovely. I think Art Deco, rather than earlier.

Yes I think it’s lovely too. Thanks for reply I also was leaning towards deco but the old cut diamonds made me think twice

Old cut diamonds were occasionally taken from broken jewellery and reused. Or from a family ring that 'needed' to be updated.

I thought at first glance it was an older piece that was repurposed .

    Here’s a different angle

It could have been repurposed but no obvious signs of where it’s been modified

The 18CT mark tells us it's British and older, because on this side of the pond it's a KT mark instead. The "Ct" went away before WWII if memory serves. If I were guessing, I'd think a 30s jeweler reused older stones and made a new ring. My dad put Victorian diamonds in old family pieces into Mom's engagement ring. Whoever this was probably did the same thing.

I’ve seen a few postwar pieces with 18ct, but this looks between the wars. I reckon that started as an earring and that the sapphire wings were added.
