    Hello all,

I've never come across this duo before. Is there a name for what it is? I thought someone had just stuck the two pieces together until I saw the raised circle in the middle of the platter.

The pattern is raised and I was thinking that it was acid etched but then that did not make sense because it is not dug out of the glass. I have a lot to learn and looking at other pics did not help here. It does look like acanthus but that did not help in my search. 8BF463A9-CCDA-43A6-8B6A-289CC7EEAC53_1_201_a.jpeg 596F5A3B-9A91-43A7-80B7-0126ABC376AD_1_201_a.jpeg 3B115A43-50E3-4B33-B5D9-D68B24B22092_1_201_a.jpeg 0AFA209F-09EB-4D5D-B526-F2BD9AA97EED_1_201_a.jpeg

I was wondering if anyone recognizes the pattern, maker, era, anything. It has some gold loss but no other damage. The only thing I am sure of is that it is amethyst glass and likely older but probably not antique.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Just a guess, Looks like something Central would have made, mid thirties.

Mia Culpa, I'll accept Cambridge, don't recognize the etching, which would be specific to the manufacturer.

That was a big thing back when everyone had "cocktail parties". If you look at glassware from this era you will see all sorts of pieces that were meant to be used by the hostess to serve her guests both at small parties to large dinner parties.

Most people just don't entertain in the same way. They are more apt to use paper or plastic disposable stuff & serve stuff they purchased at a local deli or at the neighborhood grocery store. Those options would have never occurred to a hostess back in the 1940's to 1970's because she would have been the talk of the neighborhood.

I know, It is a shame. I love to see all of the glassware and fine linens.

I think this set is so pretty! I used to collect Cambridge amber but I never had anything as fancy as this with the etching

LOL, Peggy! That brings back memories. Those sets were used when you had a cheese ball that was available at the grocery, deli or specialty food store. Sometimes they had "wine" mixed in and had a reddish purple stripe through it, and of course were rolled in nuts. Tasted pretty good, IMHO.

    Your glassware is beautiful.

G'd that brings back memories. I use to work for a marketing direct mail place and one of their catalogs was for food including cheese. I had to eat or sample the cheeses and food so I could write the copy. Most was disgusting, but I am or was or am a picky eater.

Better than the other fella who had to drink wine for the wine catalog..he could not handle booze and always got sick even just by having some sips. I always wondered how he got home safe. BTW- he wasn't a nice person, but that is a whole nother story.
Those were the days when the boss man didn't think twice about how dangerous it was to drink all day and then drive home.

I use those sets for chips and guacamole or home made candies (the chocolates go on the plate and the nut brittle in the bowl). I love giving old glass new life :)

Not an alcohol drinker but bring on all the cheese to taste. Yum!! Oooh... chips, guacamole, and chocolate. I'm hungry now!

I like this enough to collect it but I have not found any for sale yet.
