Featured Saddle side table? Foot stool?

Hello, community!
I purchased this item years ago, in Seattle. I actually have no idea what this really is. A camel saddle repurposed? A creation based on one? Was it intended as a footstool or side table or... Does anyone have any idea? It is approximately 24" wide, 16" tall, and
12" deep.

Many thanks for any ideas.

 

that's a lot of extra wood for a camel saddle , and it don't look too comfy .......
but it does look like a saddle , of sorts...

 

I found a couple similar that say pack saddle from China. Not sure if it's true or not.

The construction is very simple being planks of a hardwood set into a frame. They show a lot of wear on the wood as well as the metal fixings.

I’ve been told they put them straight onto the horse, but I would think that would rub. All pack animals in Afghanistan have felts under the wooden trees.

These types of saddles would have been very common right up to the end of the 2nd World War."

Very unique find.

 

It reminds me of the stool sales people would sit on when they would fit you for shoes.

 

Seems like the pad on that would be very uncomfortable as a saddle. But as you mentioned, perhaps changed from the original.
