Hand painted and signed. Original label and Made In France on bottom. Any opinions on age?

Older than many. With that sort of paper label I'd be thinking 50 years old or close to it. What's interesting is the monochrome paint. The ones that sold left and right later were usually fancy colors.

Thanks evelyb30. I thought it was interesting enough to buy.

Based on the pasted on label, I'd put it even earlier, pre-WWII.

I wouldn't be too surprised. The rest doesn't "feel" that old though; they may have used a pre-War stash of labels sitting on a factory shelf.

The label doesn't seem to be adding anything--aren't you tempted to remove it?

The fact that someone ripped off half the label that says "Made in...." makes you wonder if it said some other country. What makes you say Limoges?

Made in France fits perfectly inside the frame of the label, imo.

I'm really not getting a Limoges vibe from this. It is definitely an older egg but there were other manufacturers who made egg trinket boxes outside of Limoges. I'm not an expert in early boxes but I would raise the possibilty that the label was added decades after the box was produced. There does look like some type of mark under the label but it would up to you whether it's worth removing it. Regardless, it's a beautiful piece.

Debora, looking with a glass, maybe no? It's hard to tell

I assumed that the mark under the label is similar to the mark on the inside of the lid. I can rip the label off, Some of the label came off when I had to take a price sticker off.

Can't it be dated by the "Made in France"? A ball point pen would leave an impression while a fountain pen leaves superficial ink. Generally speaking. And you need to lay in some solvent so you can remove price labels, etc. without damaging what's underneath.

Water may work fine but... The sticker is one proof of your item's age and solvent wouldn't have destroyed it.
