Featured Thrift store art....

I firmly believe art is in the eye of the beholder. No two people are alike. What I like, you might hate. No one (I don't think) sets out to create a painting everyone will hate. It would be self defeating. Some people just don't have talent (like me). But, that's another discussion.

 

I don't know.... I've seen a couple...... tell someone that no one does that and it becomes a challenge.....

 

Epic rain today in Portland, Oregon (2-3"!). The good news is, it meant that I drove to work instead of bicycle and so had time to hit a couple of thrift stores.

Found this good 18"x24" landscape for $15. I'll cut a frame for it from reclaimed boards.




At a different store I found this Chief Joseph painting. $10! Based on an Edward Curtis photo I think, but actually a really nice painting.

(Definitely a painting--- I had to do a double check myself.)

 

Like both of these. Any signature on the first one? Definitely from a confident hand.

Update: those two paintings I posted above have both since sold. I made a combined $300 profit in them!

And here's yesterday's find: a watercolor of a hunting dog by Jean Herblet (1893-1985). The tiny brushstrokes are remarkable to me!

 

Looks like a black Labrador rather than a Pointer and I’m confused by the plural?

 

Yeah, the tag misspells the artist's first name too-- it says 'Joan' when it's 'Jean.' Somebody made some mistakes.

The type-writer font suggests some age, though.

 

Looks like 'Jean' was a pseudonym: real name, Boris O'Klein. (Russian-Irish-French?? Ok!)
