Hydrogen Peroxide, delicious or drab?

Hydrogen peroxide, does it damage gilding? I’ve got some stained plates with glorious gilding. I’ve never actually used the ol’ dealers trick of soaking in professional grade peroxide. Just wanting to know if I’m gonna do more harm than good if I try?

Photo shows the worst offender. How does this even happen? Gravy or sauce or something left to sit on a plate for weeks, or longer? Something totally different?

I’ve gotta think this stain is set in pretty damn good but maybe a miracle is possible

 

I have heard it is from moisture getting in through crazing or cracks. I don't know if food grade peroxide would work or not. I would see this discoloring a lot on transferware ironstone.

 

I got 3% food grade peroxide and used it on one of a set of egg cups to see the difference. I had to leave it soaking for a couple of days but it really worked.

 

Peroxide soak will damage the gilt trim...I speak from experience.
