Featured Medal?

    Dear forum members, I'm asking for help in attributing an item. I bought it from someone, it was a chance purchase.
    I found the item very interesting.
    I think it's a medal, and the ribbon is genuine! It's made of silver.
    But what kind of medal is it? Has anyone seen one like it?

    I'm counting on your help.

    Looks like a Phrygian cap, which became a symbol of Liberty. Is it likely to be French?

    (LOL) Or the Sorting Hat's older brother! Nice score; no wonder the ribbon is tatty.

    Paris, the shepherd-prince whose decision to choose Aphrodite as the fairest of 3 competing goddesses led to the Trojan war, is typically identified by his Phrygian cap:

    The sculptor Canova made the cap of invisibility that Hermes lent to the hero Perseus a Phrygian cap with wings:

    It was the symbol of the Olympics in France. Most people didn't know what it was because the design was odd if you weren't aware of the history.
