On the last day of the year I decide to share some of my recent arrivals. But first, please enjoy this collection of my favorites from the year: 74773db4cedd81e9b057fa883e310980.jpeg I have also edited all my golden lacquerware pieces together, as I’m too lazy to take them all out and photograph them in on image! fc9dbba3b332b1004cf17675a273231e.jpeg So here’s an overview of my latest purchases!( some are still on the way, i.e. a comb bought ten days ago & still in the hands of USPS:playful:) ffb6235a105cffa67ada24de95282894.jpeg
I will post details one by one in the comment section.

First, this gigantic Japanese charger?plate? I won cheap in an online auction knowing not how heavy it is…and paid the same amount for the shipping… but still not too expensive. Cannot decode the signature so assume a small workshop. Would appreciate any thoughts on age.

Next, a small Japanese box commonly referred as Bushibako(附子箱), the material used to dye teeth? Late 19th century maybe? b8d2e19f48bc3fcde88d6ac12e1ebc77.jpeg 91d76ac96a68156d1b378474be07dff0.jpeg dfb4bfcd9ebe3634c6ca381f35e38a84.jpeg 18f8bd3c6bc2c35559a5f0ab7e97f445.jpeg

Another set of comb and hair stick, signed, lacquered horn or tortoiseshell.
My guess is Meiji based on style, shape and thickness.

Last one, an early 20th century comb. I think this is horn, not blonde tortoiseshell because there’s no growth line. Painted in black lacquer? I thought they were inlays but nah. ca85ce9f62fdc78a5d577d91c6d6559d.jpeg

I was obsessed with lapis these days and I hope you like my non-vintage specimens too.

Even when you have absolutely declared an end to it, it goes on. Before I got into antique/vintage buying, selling, and collecting, I had no idea how many interesting things from the past were out there to be had, owned for a while or kept, admired, passed on to someone else, whatever suits you. It's a habit I can't stop.
