Featured Identify and estimate this antique safe.

Hello everyone,

I need an estimation of this antique safe which belonged to my grandfather, and before to his father.

All I actually know about this safe is that my grandfather (who died in 2014) already had this safe decades before he married my grandmother in 1960.

The external dimension of the safe : 111cmx73cmx52cm

At least 19th century but could be older. Built like a strong-box. Can't say I have seen anything quite like it here in the US. Using search terms; antique strong box safe, brings up some similar. Some fancier ones are listed as 18th century. Plainer ones are mostly designated as early to mid-19th century.

The estimated price is around $12,000. The safe is in Mauritius island, but if someone is interested, we can arrange a transport because our populations is not very interested in this kind of stuff.

you can use the Sell Forum when you have more than a dozen posts , but it's not very active as a tool.

 

I have to show this to my husband. We have lots of people asking us to sell used safes for them, but never saw one like this!

 

I love old safes, I really want one but I always seem to want 1 of everything!!

I love how so many people owned safes 100 years ago. Speaks volumes on trust!!
