I fell in love with this vase.

Today’s find. It appears to be porcelain or possibly ceramic. I saw it and instantly fell in love. Just look at the ornamentation — and especially the shape of the vase itself, which is also decorated with floral motifs. And at the very top of the tall stem there is a spider’s web with a spider. Isn’t it beautiful?

My initial thought is that it could be Japanese, but it could just as well be English or German. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Has anyone come across similar ornamentation before?

Late 19th c, I think. Interesting that it isn't marked at all. My feeling is Continental, maybe Austrian (Bohemia). But I am a little mystified at the rim and the way it's gilded. I would've picked it up, too, and sorry I can't add anything further. Google lens says it's Doulton -- it's not, but the vase body is similar to British ones barring the molded spiderweb and flowers. Cool.

The molded spiderweb pattern is so cool.

I wonder if this was a mark that didn't land correctly. Maybe a crown? Screenshot_20260106_151333_Chrome.jpg

Oh yes.. I cleaned it up now.
And now I’m wondering whether it’s possible that the vase was originally produced without the added painted floral decoration — with only the gilding and the relief floral elements. Of course, the painted flowers enhance the overall appearance, but the form of the vase itself already feels complete and self-sufficient: the scaled surface, the gilding, the sculptural neck, and of course the flowers and the spider’s web.

I’ll add a few more photos shortly. It hasn’t changed dramatically after a gentle soak, but there is definitely some improvement.

It is more looks like a "paint test" with clear brush lines. I wish to find some kind of marking, but bad luck. photo_6_2026-01-07_12-34-57.jpg

yeah i don't think much more will come off, if i had to guess i'd say the raised decorational parts had gilding or painted areas of some kind thats now a bit worn off

    its soooo pretty though
