Good afternoon. I found a pair of huge cut crystal glass vases yesterday. They weigh over 4.5kilos and stand 45cm tall each when assembled.

Can anyone help with their origin? I have never seen pieces in two parts before and I feel that although the vase sits exactly on top of the pedestal, I would be quite nervous using them. I have spent some time searching but haven't found another example of a two piece vase.

I have photographed one. The other is identical

They are quite beautiful, but yeah, I get the nervous feeling as well. I was trying to figure out if there is another way to configure them or maybe the 4 pieces are used separately as part of a set, but nothing strikes me other than the way you have them assembled. I was also wondering why you would need a big pedestal for a vase, unless they were custom made for a specific space. Hoping someone has more information. I found this during a google search but I scrolled and scrolled and never could find the advert. Looks like it might be in Italy.

At first google AI said it was Waterford Alana but then changed its mind and said Waterford Hibernia. They showed a Hurricane Lamp that looked a little similar to yours but in yours I can't see where a candle would go.

Lovely! For what it's worth they are not giving me a Waterford vibe. As for use - I suppose it's possible the base is actually a candleholder for a pillar candle. Another thought is that the two pieces were originally glued together and the glue gave out at some point in time. I've had that happen. Some American pressed glass companies, rather than create one mold, multipurposed molds by using a candleholder mold as a base and then glued a piece from another mold on top, maybe a vase or bowl. Really, I suppose, you could glue any number of shapes to the base. I'd be nervous too using them the way they are. I bump into my tables all the time and I can just see it toppling.

I find them stunning. Is the vase part stable when sitting without the pedestal? I don't think these were meant for use in a setting with small children or cats that are allowed to jump on the table. I can see them looking glorious with a flower arrangement under a chandelier at a formal dinner. Their weight alone surely keeps them firmly anchored unless they receive a strong sideways push? I see it as a convertible design: vase alone, perhaps on the mantel, for less fancy times; with the pedestal for a glittering effect.

Seller tells me that his is in one piece so I imagine that they should be glued . I will sell them in two parts and let the buyer join them. Easier to ship that way.

That was the one I tried to send you the link for and you couldn't read it. I'm glad you found it. It reminds me of certain Fostoria American Cake Stands that were glued and frequently come apart. I think if this set were mine, I would look for some of that putty that cookie jar collectors attach the cookie jar lid with. It isn't permanent but certainly prevents tragedies.
