I recently came across these in a box of my mother's old Christmas tree ornaments. I was wondering if anyone was familiar with them? I don't recall seeing anything like them before growing up, but they're glass so I can see why mom might have kept them out of reach.

    They're 6-8" long.

Might they be from your mother's own childhood?

Possibly? They were with glass ornaments by Michael Dorofee (a NJ glass worker). It's possible she got them when her mother passed which is why I'd never seen them before.

I should mention she was born in 1938 if that's at all helpful for determining the possible age of these. They definitely look hand painted.

Knee jerk was 1980s reproductions .During that time people were mad for Christmas ornaments (Christopher Radko etc) and especially antique ones. A lot were copied . The fact the glitter is still there lends me pause. That being said its not unheard of that they may have rarely been used wich could also lead to the condition being so good. Charming things regardless. I love they are glass.

That was my thought too. And there's an awful lot of similars to be found on the internet -- both in glass and porcelain - that leads me think so.

[Debora posted while I was poking around. I'm going to continue with my original thinking.]
A search for "Christmas ornament Santa icicle" turned up many variants, such as

Adding "antique" to the search terms really didn't help. If anything, just turned up more modern ones.

Subbing "angel" for "Santa" did not produce as many that were really similar to yours, but do see these on eBay, described simply as "vintage" with no elaboration on what that term means to seller

Most of the search results for both ornaments look like modern repros to me. Yours may have been repros in their day too, but I think their day was your mother's childhood. The Santa icicles have a German feel for me & could be quite an old design.

I know nothing, but the molding of the Santa on the right seems crisper than the other Santa and angel. Also the cap colour is different and the painting of the eyes is more detailed. I defer to the experts here, but in the pottie world, crisper molding means earlier production. Re-used molds from earlier times generally look "softer" for want of a better term.

I agree with you. If one is vintage, that would be the one.
