I've seen him in older video on BBC Antiques Alley shows. He's apparently doing or did these for fun.

Woo, heck of a price for that fabulous tapestry!
I prefer Dickinsons Real Deal to Bargain Hunt. Bargain Hunt contestants often buy utter tat and I find I don’t learn much.
Real Deal has members of the public offering their items to professional dealers, they can take the dealer offer or go to auction with David Dickinson if they think the dealer is being too mean. There seems to be more interesting items featured, fresh to the market. Loads of jewellery being offered atm which of course I like to see:)

I like the Real Deal too,but haven't seen any recent episodes in...ever, probably. The metal prices are definitely well out of date. Bargain Hunt is more about fun than really learning antiques, or was the last I saw of it. Most of what was purchased was late Victorian at the oldest, and as an old fart it just didn't seem all that old to me.

I'm in Australia. Late Victorian is mostly what's around

That makes sense. Anything really old in Australia was made or imported when someone had the money to import it.

So much later Victorian for free on FB marketplace.
Or for 50 or 100 bucks. People know it's antique and don't want to dump it but are trying to move it on. That's the summary of the usual description
Really people STILL can't handle dark brown. I personally like it and mix it up with different colours.
From what I've heard, peak prices were in the 1990s

Same here. Ornate Victorian sells for pennies if it sells at all. It's far sturdier than anything sold new, but the Renter generation doesn't want it because they have to move it.
