Does age make Lladro more valuable?

I have a Sailor Boy with Yacht Lladro figurine. The markings on the bottom lead me to believe it is 1971-1974 when this figurine first came into production. It wasn’t retired until the 1990s and is fairly common. Does the age of this particular one make it more valuable? I am planning on selling in as it is part of an estate.

I am thinking this is probably worth about $50 then?

The only one that is showing as "Sold" on eBay, sold over the weekend at $39.99 plus $10-ish shipping.

I am hanging on to a couple of pieces with boxes that belonged to my mother, so I am certain it will never be worth more than now. :cat:

I was at an auction with 10 older pieces of Lladro today. Sad to report that Lladro has lost alot of value, like most other collectibles and antiques.

The prices I see at auction for Lladro are very weak compared to a decade ago. Used to be a big following of dedicated collectors for these with attendees bringing their checklists and price guides with them to estate sales and auctions. These seem to fit into the same category as Hummel Figurines which were also "manufactured" collectables from the same era sold in large quantities in gift shops and thru mail order adverts. The collectors for these seem to be very elderly from what I've seen locally.

Rarity and size still count but the market for smaller, common figurines is as described above. There is still a market but at rock bottom prices.

What surprised me was some of the completed sale prices for Nao porcelain. I usually ignored Nao but it seems to be finding a following. I also wasn't aware Nao was owned by Lladro. I always thought of it as a separate firm that was a Lladro wannabe.

Well, I think he's charming! Sometimes things sell because of how they're presented, not whether they are "collectible" or "name brand". Try putting him in a Naval or seaside setting with other like items. Make it appear "beachy" and I'm sure someone will buy him.

I'll give it a shot, everything has come from my Pa's going to a nursing home so it is meant to go into his estate. The trends in things is interesting. I've been valuing his coins and some of them have made a pretty big loss since the 1980s
