My daughter was wearing this ring from her hoard of jewelry the other day and we were wondering if we could find a maker. She acquired it from a secondary source (lot, thrift or such) in the US.

It is marked 22Kt Star 73 MS, weight about 18gms

She is thinking it may be from Massa-Carrara region (Tuscany) Italy after 1968 but would love any help.

    Intaglio of Justicia, I believe.

Why? Is there info about the ring not shared here? MS is not a recognized Province code as far as I can tell. Since there's an archeological revival feel to it, I thought maybe Naples. Unfortunately, maker 73 for both Rome & Naples is unidentified. :(

I agree with your daughter's assessment.
73 would be the maker's assigned number. There's an ongoing list of identified Italian makers numbers HERE but it doesn't appear to include Massa-Carrara maker number 73 at this time.

    @Bronwen
MS is listed HERE, and in other sources I've seen.

Oh good. I was looking for this but kept getting directed to the Italian Silver Collection site, which does not have an MS Province code. That answers the Massa Carrara question.

Thank you all for weighing in all thoughts are much appreciated!:) I've sent her a link so that she will be able to read along.

I'm rather useless with jewelry but I do enjoy looking!

Curiously, I'm not finding this exact representation, although it is quite a conventional one for an allegorical figure. I see her seated, holding out the scales, or standing with the scales & some other attribute, such as a cornucopia, symbolizing other benefits of an orderly society, but not leaning on a plinth.

    Ditto.

It is a great ring, your daughter has a good eye. Is the intaglio silver and are those silver inlays on the band?

I will ask her if she knows. She has masses of jewelry she's acquired and sometimes I sit and help her group things. Some of it is amazing! (She's the smart one trying to identify, I'm the labor that can put it in a bag.:D)

I asked and she is unsure of the material of the silvered part. It hasn't been tested. There are no other markings that might indicate silver though she said it's textured enough that she thought meteorite (or something along those lines) might be a possibility.

Is the figure raised compared to its background or carved into the background?
In the photo provided, it actually looks raised, which would mean it's not an intaglio. But my old eyes may be deceiving me.

She has said that the silvered areas are somewhat recessed but that the figure is raised.

Many meteorites contain iron (not all do). She could test for iron content with a magnet.
