Grabbed these in Sale this morning. They were a pound each and I thought it churlish to pass up on the offer. The heads have stefano caltagirone written on them. Caltagirone the place name and Stefano the producer perhaps?
The dish makes me think Bitossi with the floral motif on the base.

When I was in Sicily those heads were everywhere. Nearly every balcony and window had a pair. The story is that a noble young woman fell in love with a Moor or a Turk - an outsider. Her father forbade the match and they were both beheaded. Another version says she found out her lover had a wife and children back home. She killed him and then herself. Yours are very nice, old ones.

They are bonny. Although very small. Ive discovered most are much larger than these.

Do you think they were meant as egg cups?
