Howdy everyone. I've done the Google thing with this, Google tells me it is a wood carving of Chinese immortal Li Tai Guai and it is called a "scene". It measures 11 1/4" wide, 12" tall and 2" thick. It is made of 2 pieces, the base is screwed to the scene using slotted screws. Google found 1 identical carving, right down to the darker color of the lower portion. Is it a frieze, a scene or just a carving? I've tried to find other similar pieces to establish a value so I can price it but I just need to know what to call it.

    Thanks everybody! Linda

Relief carving probably most accurate, but not necessarily the best description to catch the eye of a potential buyer. I would not call it a frieze.

Diorama seems to be at least marginally appropriate.

Thank you everyone. It will be going to one of my booths once I figure out what it should sell for. I will poetically use "Relief Carving" as descriptor on the tag.

You could get really poetic & say figures of ___ carved in high relief.

I would also add the alternative spelling of the name: Li Tieguai.
    And good luck!:)
