    Hello all,
My parents purchased an estate approx 30 years ago here in Northern Nevada. Unfortunately, my mother passed in 2008 and I just lost my father a couple of weeks ago. With that being said, my wife and I are now the owners of a rather large antique furniture collection. We have two young kids, and quite frankly do not have the room for all of this furniture. I wanted to start off by posting a set of chairs we have. I am not sure what to do with them. We will eventually be selling it all, but I am not sure how to go about it. I know the antique furniture market is down but I want to make sure this furniture goes to the right person and not just sold at some random auction house. Please take a look at these chairs and if anyone can give any insight, that would be wonderful!!! Thank you in advance! Alex

    So sorry for your loss(es)!

I don't know how you'd make sure your items go to "the right person" other than selling bit by bit locally on a platform such as FB Marketplace or Craigslist where you could meet, and therefore pick and chose, your buyers... thought you're likely to put potential buyers off if you ask questions about their motives. And keep in mind that selling locally like that usually brings lower prices.
Don't discount using reputable auction houses, the buyers are often knowledgeable and appreciative collectors. If I were in your shoes, that is likely how I would proceed. Larger local auction houses that specialize in antiques usually offer a home service... they will visit and look over everything and let you know what, if anything, they'd be interested in handling for you. Some may transport your items to their saleroom, others may expect you to handle that.
Another option is engaging a local estate/tag sale company. If you don't want loads of potential buyers traipsing through your home for days, looking at the items for sale, some estate/tag sale companies have warehouses and are willing to transport your items to their site for the sale days. They, like the auction houses, will visit you and look over the stuff. They will then make an offer concerning their commission rate based on what they anticipate your stuff is worth, and how much of the grunt work you want them to do. Check out estatesales.net.
Good luck, we look forward to seeing your items!

Thank you so much for your input. I have a feeling I will be going that route indeed. Someone had mentioned a reputable auction house in Oakland California by the name of Clars. I have reached out to them. Hoping they will show some interest. I will post the other items soon.

If they don't want it, locally estate auctions are a thing. Pickup is usually local, but there is no one traipsing around your house. Some offer shipping, but for that you really are better off with an auction house. If everything is like those cool gondola chairs, the auction house is going to be drooling.

If you're in Northern California, Clars is a good choice.

I am in Northern Nevada. Hour south of Reno. Clars responded and asked that I send more photos to give them an idea of the scope of the property. Fingers crossed that they show interest. I wont forget to post the other photos on here as well.

Victorian furniture isn't the hottest right now. I bet @Ghopper1924 knows more than I do.

That is what I am gathering. Unfortunately, times have changed drastically from when my mother purchased all of this stuff over 30 years ago. I think I remember her at one point saying "all this furniture will be our retirement one day!" Boy did she miss that mark by just a little haha.
