    Hi folks

this was another thing i found in a discarded pile (trying not to buy anything new at the moment..........(though i still have been any way)

i guess i thought it was toooo modern, or the backing looked not fine enough

    the front is be-uteafull though

that gorgeous red as a background, and looks pretty well done to me

think i would guess more aluminium on the backing

would this be considered ginbari ?

    help appreciated

Could it be Shippo yaki? "Shippo yaki is Japan’s dazzling form of cloisonné enamelware. The word shippo means “seven treasures,” a term from Buddhist scripture that lists gold, silver, pearl, carnelian, agate, seashell, and lapis lazuli, with each representing sacred beauty. Artisans gave this name to their craft because every piece glows like a jewel."

see there are some being sold as that, and i can't really see what the difference between the two terms are........seems to be

    Not the same
Shippo yaki and ginbari are not the same.Shippo yaki refers to a specific type of cloisonné enamelware that is known for its jewel-like shine and intricate designs, often made from a metal base coated with glass powder. In contrast, ginbari is a traditional Japanese craft that involves the use of silver foil to create intricate designs on ceramics. While both techniques are highly regarded in Japanese ceramics, they utilize different materials and methods.

We typically see Ginbari on vases and have sold a couple Shippo Yaki enameled pieces - always jewelry although I seem to recall a frame as well. Thank you for explaining the techniques.

Ginbari doesn't sell for much, if you can get it to move at all, or it didn't two years ago anyway. I love it, but apparently most buyers don't.

A beautiful thing indeed. I'm amazed the market for it is poor. Was it over produced or something?
