I’m documenting what appears to be a unique, hand‑painted Caverswall Silver Jubilee campana urn from 1977, signed by R. A. Shufflebotham. After searching through auction records, museum references, and collector forums, I haven’t been able to locate any other one‑of‑one Caverswall prestige pieces from this period.

I’m currently building a Caverswall Prestige Archive to record rare studio‑level works, and I’d be grateful for any historical insight, production background, or comparable examples that members may know of.

If anyone has photographs, catalog information, or details on unique or limited‑edition Caverswall pieces — especially those connected to the prestige or studio ranges — I would really appreciate your input. General historical information about the company’s production practices in the 1970s is also very welcome.

Thank you in advance for any guidance or material you can share.

With Windsor Castle, not Buckingham Palace. Signed by Keith Hancock and from a limited edition of 50.

Dear Debora, many thanks for your valuable feedback. It seems that the urns were produced in quantity and maybe one with Buckingham Palace and 50 with Windsor Castle. I also understand that R.A. Shufflebotham joined Carverswall having worked at Minton....more to investigate.

Dear Kentworld, thank you for the info. The vase has a prominent place in the living room amongst other UK memorabilia, a pleasure to the eye. A shame that the current owner (Halcyon) of Carverswall has not highlighted these glorious years of talented craftmanship on their website.

    Hi Bernard

I also had the pleasure of finding a Shufflebotham piece a few months ago.

Does the other side of the lid of yours also have the red lion? I can't tell if these are two different pieces or the same piece with different lighting. Trying to compare clouds, as that seems to me to be the hardest part to replicate precisely from one to another, but the faintness of the pic from 2012 makes it difficult.

If it is the same piece & really is a one-off, why wasn't that stressed in the 2012 description?

Hi Chinoiserie, thank you for the information, I noticed that the urn is H 27 cm and a limited edition of 60 referencing to QE II 60th birthday. Nice addition to the archive.

Hi Bronwen, see additional pictures that I have available on the computer. Not the best pictures but the red lion is to the right of the crown (maybe also to the left?). I'll have a look tomorrow and take a better picture.

Looks to me like there would be 3 different symbols, representing the United Kingdom.
