A lady who works at the thrift store I go to every day, sent me a text with the photos of these 2 swords with 2 questions:
    Are the old?
    Are the valuable?

She's Cuban & her English is limited, so I can't have a big conversation with her over the text, but will have people who can translate tomorrow.

A image search of the one with the body for handle came up as possible copy, but I don't think the writer was sure (see last 2 )attached

Can anyone tell me anything about these? Real or copy, idea what to pay either way?

Thank you for any help with these!

Brass is too soft for combat blades, so if real, maybe bronze.

I'm going to see them tomorrow, she told me she'd take $400 for both, so maybe just take the larger one with body for handle & offer 250?
Is 200 each good for reproductions if not real?
    Thanks

I would not pay even $5 for a replica

Stay away from those "swords". They are very crudely made, and that gunk on them means they were made to deceive.

I have seen many Celtic and Roman swords in museums in my general area, most recently in the Gallo-Roman Museum in Tongeren, Belgium. They are all very beautiful and perfectly made.
No, it isn't. They are not made as replicas, but to be sold as real. True replicas are much better quality (as are the real ones) and are not made to deceive.

    Replicas, prices in euros:

    Grieks = Greek.
    Romeins/Romeinse = Roman.

Apologies for the lateness of my reply, long story, but hopefully back permanently now.

I hope that you didn't buy these items? I can only concur with what has already been said about these items, one fake and the other a badly mismatched piece. In my humble opinion, quite worthless.

Generally, I quite agree, and in this case 100% so. However, replicas can have their place in a collection, if an original is totally unobtainable, or well outside the resources available to acquire an original. Whilst I usually wouldn't buy replicas either, there are some items that appeal, but I wouldn't pay the high prices needed to buy an original example. I do have a couple of copies in my collection, which I bought knowing they were copies, but are of weapons that I really like, but do not collect as such. My replica 1871 Elcho bayonet for example, which cost less than a tenth of the cost of an original, and the saved funds can go to items that I actually do collect.

    Just a thought.

NB. The caveat here of course, being that the items are known to be replicas before purchase!
