My Other Chinese Brushpot

    This is the other pot I bought along with the other I posted the other day. This one stands 3 5/8" tall and measures 4 3/8" across the top and is 3 1/8" deep.

    Hello. This looks like a censer to me and it is basic Minyao ware (ware of the people) which is exported worldwide to this day.

    Thanks Ken, I also have searched and see these also shown as brushpots. Tough call I guess.

    What's in a name? Multiple uses I expect. @Ken Yap -- what is the difference between Minyao ware and "kitchen ming?"

    They mean basically the same thing Wares for the common people as opposed to Guanyao ware, which is “meant” for the upper classes. Yes, I have always said anything can be used for anything the owner chooses, but it’s just that I see brushpots as being taller (on account of the length of the brushes) and normally they have flat bases as opposed to shaped, but of course as you rightly say, it’s not written in stone.

    I agree with you; I usually think brush pots are taller. Minyao sound more erudite than kitchen ming. :D
