I found this little bottle in a old box belonging to my Uncle. I am hoping if the forum could help me identify it. It seems to be ivory but I am not 100% sure. It is quite solid and only about 4-5in. High.
    Thanks for any help .

The paddle end of the dipper says "snuff," but I don't think I've ever seen a snuff bottle that tall. Wait for other opinions.

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

Well, we'll still wait for more opinions, but... (and I am admitting this in the name of antiquery)... one of my great great something-or-others had one of that size and shape. It's now in a curio cabinet of another relative: that's how I know. Not sure of origin or material, but it looked to me to be pottery of some kind and had what looked to me like Mexican flowers (Diego/Kahlo style) painted on it.

Can you post a close up of the bottom ? The overall stain and the shiny newness of the spoon makes me think recent reproduction .

Agree with rather large snuff bottle. Asian in origin. Many reproductions in resin so, as Johnny suggests, some more pictures are in order.

How can one tell the difference between resin and bone?

Bone usually shows some pores, while resin does not. Resin often shows small bubbles, while bone does not. Resin often shows artifacts related to the casting process (such as parallel striations, in NW Coast totem pole castings - run if you see those). Carved lines in bone will often be more precise and less rounded than those in resin items. Coloration is generally more uniform in resin than in bone.
The bottom of this bottle does have a cast look, to me.

Ivory should show some lines- Schreger lines - that will help identify species, and will be lacking in either bone or resin.
