    Yes, birch is most often used in Norwegian made furnitured due to availability, and because birch presumably is easy to carve and shape, and while sturdy, perhaps too soft to turn into lumber for buildings. Also birch trees don't grow straight and tall enough to make good planks in Norway.

    It was used here to "face" kitchen cabinets for years. They made the "box" out of something else. Did they use it for wall paneling too? Wood on walls was popular here for a while, and birch pieces would be pretty.

    Never seen Norwegian art deco furniture! I like it with the exception of the clunky feet which is typical of furniture design of that era. Pleasing proportions. On another note, I may be traveling to my ancestral home town, Stavanger, next year. I'm sure it's changed since I last visited in 1974! :D
