Yes, birch is most often used in Norwegian made furnitured due to availability, and because birch presumably is easy to carve and shape, and while sturdy, perhaps too soft to turn into lumber for buildings. Also birch trees don't grow straight and tall enough to make good planks in Norway.

It was used here to "face" kitchen cabinets for years. They made the "box" out of something else. Did they use it for wall paneling too? Wood on walls was popular here for a while, and birch pieces would be pretty.

Never seen Norwegian art deco furniture! I like it with the exception of the clunky feet which is typical of furniture design of that era. Pleasing proportions. On another note, I may be traveling to my ancestral home town, Stavanger, next year. I'm sure it's changed since I last visited in 1974! :D

114 cm diameter and 75 cm height birch burl table probably around 1840. I likely overpaid at $400 but the top has wonderful large book matched veneers. Will make separate dating post with more pictures.

Yes indeed! I was contemplating about pricing it, but when the Commander-in-Chief (wife) came home from work, we apparently had a new breakfast table!

    Gente cleansing and waxing next!

Funny how that works... I picked up a vintage sideboard that I was going to flip. Now I have to look at it every day..

Blenko crackle glass decanters with stoppers.

I've been buying these decanters by Blenko and others whenever I can. I always thought they were 70's but they're 50's.

I think the size (less than 12 in. w/stopper) and color (charcoal) are rare. The color is found in the late 50's catalogs.

Here are the catalogs in case anyone needs them.

Looking closer at the 1956 catalog, these are cruets.

Thought I would show a couple oddities I picked up. The Lavoris teeth chart came from a thrift store several weeks ago. Found the tooth die-plate yesterday at the same thrift.

Not sure that I'd want either of those in the house, but someone will.

That solves the pricing problem, until you drag home one that she likes even better.
