    Afternoon All.

We gave a Georgian Klismos chair and it appears there are some initials on the underside. Any ideas what they are and if it is a maker or company? I was thinking maybe GW?

Do you mean Georgian as in Georgia the country in the Caucacus region,
rather than Georgian period 1714 to 1830

And what leads you believe your chair is from the Georgian period?

Which country did you find it in? People often call something Georgian even if it wasn't found in the British Isles.

And could we see more photos, for instance of the construction, under the seat.

The legs appear not to be as flared as in classical examples.

Need a photo of the underside of the seat. My immediate feeling is 20th Century.

    Thanks!

The valuer at Christies liked it too. He dated to around 1820 but said I should research the stamp.

Sorry guys, these are the only photos I have until I visit the chair again.

So just to recap... The chair you were given is in the UK. You showed the two photographs you have to a specialist at the auction house Christie's who identified the chair (in the first photograph) as being from the Regency period. But s/he was unfamiliar with what appears to be a maker's mark (in the second photograph) and suggested you do further research. Is that where we are?

That's where we are. Opening post has a typo, should read "have". I think there are some books that talk about Georgian maker's marks but they are fairly pricy and not sure this one will even be in there. I put this up in this forum just incase there were any experts.
