This is a figure that I’ve had for some time that I know nothing about as to its age, origin, etc. I don’t recall where I got it, probably some flea market on the west coast as I have been buying and selling ‘treasures’ for decades. It’s been rolled up in a grocery bag which I marked “Tanuki” not really knowing what in fact it is. It looks Asian to my eye. It is apparently a solid piece of brass and it stands approx. 6 ½” tall. It is non-magnetic and there are small areas under the patina that appear to be brass. It has a distinct mark on the bottom of the base. Any identification and information will be appreciated.

Interesting.... I Like it. Here is what Tanuki means.

The tanuki is a Japanese raccoon dog, a canid species known for its distinctive masked face, nocturnal habits, and rich cultural significance in Japanese folklore.

Here is a little more. So it's probably a Japanese figurine meant to bestow blessings. Other more experienced members will help with the Siggy I'm sure.

The Tanuki is a playful, shape-shifting trickster in Japanese mythology, celebrated for its magical abilities, mischievous nature, and symbolic connection to luck and transformation.
