I thought this watercolor looked accomplished.

It's behind a kinda home-made mounting-- a linen covered board with plastic cover screwed on top.

    The image measures 22"x15" (56x38cm).

It has pin holes in the corners, and the back says "To Mick Merry Christmas '81" followed by the same signature as the image.

Any help with the name would be greatly appreciated, again!

How frustrating not to be able to read the artist's name. It's quite a nice watercolor. Assuming it didn't end up too far from home, in what part of the world did you find it?

Thanks. Portland, Oregon, US. I'm assuming it's a So. California scene, with fog etc. But that's just an assumption!

Those do appear to be palm trees. Don't think there are too many places to scull there. Marina del Rey perhaps?

I going to take a guess an say it might be San Diego and that the church in the backround may be Mission San Diego de Alcala. As regards the artist unable to decipher the signature, Fred D (Cane ....Crane...even Clarke) just guesses. For such lovely handwriting so hard to figure out his surname.

Well, how about that?! Does appear to be San Diego. You might want to contact a local arts group, like this one, and see if they recognize the artist: https://www.sdws.org/ His initials look like "F", "S" and "C" to me but I could be wrong about the middle initial.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Good to see progress was made on identification of the location, and some on the artist! I looked at this the other day and didn't figure out anything useful. It's a nice painting.
