Featured Miniature Japanese pottery pot

Found this at a sale a week or so ago. Nicely done little mini pot from Japan. I know miniatures can be pretty collectible. I found a piece of mini NA pottery somewhere once and left it there. Later looked it up and realized it was probably a mistake. This one has a “Japan” stamp and an actual Japanese mark. I figure if it was worth marking in the first place maybe it’s worth trying to find out more about. Possibly missing a lid?

 

I think this might be a water dropper for calligraphy? Too small for anything else!!

No stopper, you regulate the amount of water at the spout by covering and uncovering the top opening with your finger.

 

this is the mark, right way up. The Japanese name for these things is Suiteki and they tend to be rather special little things, kind of like Koro, where the potter will make an extra special effort.

This one looks like it could be Oribe pottery.

 

Ah yeh. I actually have seen these before somewhere. Totally escaped me. I thought the spout was an awful particular little shape. These definitely get very unique and creative! Thanks
