I know - I've shown this before. Still can't find info on it. I cannot find one with a decorated edge. I've gone over it multiple times for marks and found none. I believe it is silver but can't prove it. The tavern scene is typical, but all the houses and scenery around the edge is unique. None of the buildings are repeated. If it had a hanger, I'd call it a flue cover. Now that we have a few new people here I thought I'd take a chance that someone might have a clue. I'd like to sell it but don't have any idea what to charge. About 9" across

Probably Jan Steen or another Dutch 'Golden Age' painter.

Bev, didn't you post this one before?

You should have it tested for silver first. Sterling, I believe, is going for about $2 per gram now, or was in the recent future, so I would hate to sell an item as silver-plate if it was (.800-8.35 silver, which I assume, from the German or Dutch scene)

Edit: I want to mention, I purchased an ash tray with a similar tavern scene, and the hallmark (I believe, for .800 or .835) was hidden on the front of the ash tray, nearly incorporated into the embossed scene.

My daughter is into silver and I"ve put away some candlesticks for her. I think she's going to inherit this very soon and let her or my grandson look for the marks!

No. I've just started de-accessioning stuff now. I figure, why wait. Let them do the sorting and dusting. LOL. Like the 50 pounds of pennies my mother and aunt saved from Indian Head to the 1980s. I split the lot in half and gave half to each grandson. I no longer have to figure out where to put it all and they're both fascinated by coins right now.

Bev I started giving things to my kids for the same reason. My grandkids are still too young however I thought ahead to who gets what so there are no disagreements no questions. I would rather they enjoy it now.

The grandsons are 18 & 19. My daughter and husband have a beautiful home in Atlanta and they both have great jobs. My son worked for CalFire for ten years and moved back to raise his son here. He's been a single dad for 17 years now and we built an apartment onto the house for them. He's getting this house but his sister has pointed out a few things she wants and we've started shifting them to her. At 77 and 80, we don't need a lot of stuff any more.
