What can you tell me about this necklace?

I picked it up at the flea market. The leaves are hollow, the links are lightweight and show wear where they meet other links, the color of the spring ring, which may or may not be original, is the color of the wear. Maybe the leaves are silverplated? Age? Materials? Country of origin? Thanks for your input.

If it's aluminum I'd be thinking West Germany. They made a lot of aluminum costume in the 60s and sold it everywhere.

Actually, it's cleaning up with silver polish.

Interesting. I wonder if the sport ring is original. If so this could be from the 30s.

Probably brass, plated with either silver or a silvertone metal.
I'm not seeing anything German, it looks US made to my European eyes. German Eloxal jewellery designs, made from anodized aluminium, are generally more delicate than this, and not silver(tone)plated.

How long is it? If it's necklace size, those leaves are enormous!!

The German Eloxal (new word on me, btw, thanks) pieces I'm familiar with date to the 60s and into the 70s. If this is pre-War it's not that.

In my mind, that circle clasp looks older than later pieces, based on the lack of the little tab that helps open it. That clasp looks like it might not be original to the piece.
I would guess c1920s-1950s, just based on the clasp and the chunkiness of the links and leaf ornaments.

Choker length and a little bit short for the 1920s, I'd think.

It's a sport ring, or thumb ring. They were in common use for a few years in the mid-1930s, but the fad went away. They kept turning up on necklaces until the mid-50s; my guess is supplies of them were sitting on a shelf in assorted factories and "we have them. Might as well use them."

Love to learn this!! It'll help me narrow down my pieces further :)

I've also never seen a sport ring on an identified European piece. That doesn't mean they didn't use them; it just means I haven't seen one.
