$3 flea market find....I thought the beads were pretty, they are glass. Any thoughts as to what kind of glass? Thanks.

I've seen both Italian and Japanese beads strung that way. They want to be Italian, but I'm not 100% sure.

I get a Japanese vibe, but this is not my forte.

Thanks, here are some more pics. The length is 28", the beads are graduated, the clasp is a rusted barrel clasp.

Thanks for a photo of the whole thing laid out.

I have no idea what they are, but would have purchased them for $3 in a NY minute.

I've been collecting vintage beads for a very long time and have never seen anything quite like these. They are absolutely not mass produced, no two the same.

Even how each bead is attached to the chain is kind of unusual.

It's not a standard Italian bead look, Japanese is a possibility but hesitating. The Japanese were making absolutely stunning glass beads in the 1950s, but it was more like you'd have a few killer beads on a 3 strand necklace mixed with plastic beads. Not a whole strand like this.

I'm almost wondering if these were hand made by a skilled artisan, more of a one off?

Can see why you got them!

I'm leaning that way too. They're hand-made lampwork for sure. The whole thing might be American or Canadian. That is NOT a Japanese clasp. What are the links made from? Does a magnet stick?

They are just goldtone base metal li ks, not the lightweight material. I am lucky in that the sharks pass up pearls and glass beads.

If they're regular brass, that pushes me more into the artisan camp, possibly right in your back yard. If those were aluminum links I'd be wondering if it wasn't made in Germany.
