    Hi,

First post but hopefully not last :)

These two plates were found buried under a tree. Does anyone have any idea what era they could be from? They look like bronze, one is 10cm and the other about 20cm.

Any help will be much appreciated.

THey appear to be scenes from the life of Moses. Where is the tree? How were they buried, how deep, any other clues.

The one with the 10 commandments, I know that is moses.. but the other one doesn't seem like it. To me it looks like one of the temples of the Israelites. Maybe King David? The eagle with the human face at the top kind of reminds me of Ezekiel 1:10

They were found in Hungary, under the tree stump.

There was a large Jewish community in the area pre WWII, so I'm thinking it might have been placed there by them.

Plate 2, Moses telling Pharoh about the famine to come. Or something Mosaic.

    Thanks!

Trying to get pictures of the back. Also trying to find out what type of tree it was under.

The tree question is really, is it feasible that around 1940 someone buried some Jewish stuff and planted a tree on the spot, it grew and was felled and recently uprooted? A 3 foot thick oak tree is impossible, but a six or eight inch diameter apple tree is quite likely.

Incidentally the pieces appear to be from the second half of the 19th C.

Very interesting plates to say the least. I'm personally leaning toward the possibility that it actually might be King Solomon since he is credited with building the first temple in Jerusalem. The animal, which appears to be a rabbit, is being presented for sacrifice perhaps? The Ten Commandments along with the first Temple of Jerusalem might indicate some significance of the two plates being together. Just a thought... :)

The condition seems remarkable for something long buried, even a bronze item.

Did you dig them up yourself or did someone tell you they dug them up?

Since you're new, here's a hint - when you upload photos, click Full Image and they'll appear in your psot.

They may have been wrapped in something AF,wich could explain the condition . The thought of why they were buried is rather sad , isn't it .

Moses coming down with the Ten Commandments and Moses and Aaron before Pharaoh? These aren't necessarily Judaica; Biblical scenes were common on wall art or decorative pieces. Still are, for that matter.

I thought the guy looked like Charlton Heston.

I think Charlton Heston looked like him. Neither of 'em looked like Moses, most likely.

    Family dug them up.

Does anyone have any idea what they may be worth?
