Not too shabby for scrap metal.

I have had some experience with these. My mom had a tooth extracted with a gold crown (7 years ago or so) and I asked what the oral surgeon what they were going to do with the gold crown. He actually sealed it, then gave me a pre-addressed pre-stamped envelope for a refinery in New Jersey and I mailed it in. I was pleasantly surprised at the money I got back. Felt like free money. $170 or something.

Then in an old jewelry box my mom had some gold crowns from my grandmother. If I hadn't had the experience with the first dentist I might not have known what to do with those. But sent them in to the same place.

A few years later, one dentist was very funny about this. I had to have a tooth with a crown extracted and the hygienist WOULD NOT give the tooth to me, saying it was a "bio-hazard". I mean, lol... it was in my mouth for 50 years, I think I'd be safe touching it. I think it was less of a bio-hazard and more of a "party fund" for the hygienists. That really ticked me off. I think I asked to speak to the dentist, he wouldn't relent, but then said, "no charge for the evaluation" or something.

Honestly, it's better not to have that problem. No one wants to have a gold crown extracted.

But that's how I knew what the crown was when I saw it in the shoe box.

I found one once, along with a few other pieces of scrap gold, in a little wooden box I grabbed at our Swap Shop :D

I feel like you can get more for that.

What did you pay for it? Did the seller know what it was?

You know it! This week I got an EAPG "Dakota" compote with a sweet fern and berries gray cut design. It amazes me what people get rid of!!!!!

    Info on the pattern:
DAKOTA, also known as BABY THUMBPRINT, was made by Ripley & Company in the 1880s and, when Ripley became Company F of the US Glass Company in 1891, it continued the pattern until about 1903.

Probably harder to sell than it used to be, but that may be changing too. It's hard to argue with the price point.
