    Hi

I have just purchased this German canteen ring, apparently the previous owner got it in Poland. It has a seam next to the skull and no hallmarks. Unsure if it’s an authentic totenkopf canteen ring or a reproduction, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

If I found one of those, real or fake, I'd honestly melt it. Or just pitch it. I'm not a psychic or close, but dang that thing stinks of nastiness.

It was a very reasonable price, probably cursed or something that’s why it was so cheap

Just the SS association is curse enough.

Looks like a repro and cashing on an ugly time for humanity. There is a spirit of evil these carry along with all from that era, history aside, I am not a museum and would never want that in my home. No offense, just prefer freedom and dignity symbols in the homestead.

Looking at the photos, I would say that it is a reproduction. The form is crude, as is that casting seam beside the skull. I have never seen one with this type of skull either. The originals that I have seen are of much better quality, though that said, as the war progressed and things turned bad for the nazi's, the quality would have dropped, probably dramatically. An original would usually have the recipients name hand engraved and a date inside too.
As Davey has said, there are lots of copies of these about.

I do understand peoples horror at such items, but personally, I think it is a period that must be remebered and not forgotten. So, that said, if one has one of these, or any other tiems from the Third Reich, I hope it is for the right reasons. For myself, I once collected daggers from the Third Reich, but definitely not for their poliical connection.

Absolutely Komo, which was why I collected them! Though I do not collect them anymore, that is for other reasons (which I may recount in another thread) , and I never collected them for their political connection. As a kid when collecting these my mother and father never had any problems with my collecting them, they knew how obsessed I am with edged weapons ( I started collecting when I was six!), and that I was interested in the history of the period as well.
My mother lived under Nazi occupation for five years, and my father saw action from 1942 -1945 and was amongst the first liberators of Bergen Belsen, so he saw the atrocities the Nazi's commited absolutely first hand.

If, collected for the right reasons I am absolutely fine with such items.......if collected for the right reasons! Though as I said earlier, do understand peoples horror and disgust at such things.
    But we mustn't forget.

Amen. Forgetting history is the key to repeating it, and only a skinhead (correct descriptors omitted) wants anything like a repeat of nazism.
