Hi everyone, I’m seeking opinions on this trumeau-style mirror. Carved wood frame, twisted columns, empire-style crest. Seller says late 1800s/early 1900s. No marks. Glass replaced. Back looks like plywood, which makes me skeptical, though frame seems old. Price: €310. Original or repro?

This is your image too? A close-up of back with screws? On offer in Finland?

    Hi @AKR

I’d date the mirror to the 1870s-1880s. Walnut frame. The backing appears to be pine, which is a good job considering that most mirror replacements will put just about anything on the back to hold in a replacement: fiberboard, even cardboard.
I don’t know about you, but the price is over the top for the Midwestern U.S. Nice piece, though.

Ghopper is spot-on. No reason to believe that it is not authentic. Has been refinished.

It's nicely made, far better than anything we can find here now. (USA) That said, the price seems quite high; I don't think even an American antique store could sell it for that price. If you're buying it to use it, offer what you think is fair. The worst they can do is say "no'.
