Any clues as to the identity of the artist of this picture?

Hi all,

I’m hoping for some help in identifying the artist who drew this picture.

I bought the painting recently in a house clearance auction in Dublin. I think it’s drawn with charcoal on paper and it is signed towards the bottom right. I’ve tried to work who the artist is but haven’t had any luck so far.

If anyone had any ideas or suggestions, I’d greatly appreciate it.

I’ve put up some photos and hopefully someone recognises the artist.

If you can, please include a photo of the back, frame and all. There's often clues there.

A third vote for Calum Ross. I haven't been able to find him.

 

What do you all read as the year? Is it "52"?

Yes, 52.

 

if so , it wasn't framed in 52...... the mats are too clean..

 

I'm going with the year ... 02

 

Think that more likely. Could be a student piece.

Found this bio of a contributor to the "New Writing" anthology for 1980:
"Calum Ross was born near Fort William , Inverness-shire , in 1946. He was brought up there and in Skye . He studied Art in the Glasgow School of Art in the sixties since when he has worked in various jobs"

 

Wow, thank you all for your help and for this amazing information. There's nothing interesting on the back of the picture but I now have plenty of new suggestions to work off.
