Are these little plates salts?

    These two Adderley bone china plates, circa 1950s, are only about 3-1/2" in diameter. Would they have been used for salt? Or some sort of little treats?

    The thought of putting out a cigarette in something as pretty as these dishes makes me shudder!

    Hi Pat,
    My sister, when she was working as a waitress served a man coffee in an ashtray. When he started to yell, Sis explained that the man had been putting out his cigarettes in the saucer. The man calmed down and said "Sorry".
