Please note the photo of the corner - same design in all four corners. Very heavy and once I get past oak and pine I do not know the difference between walnut or mahogany, so need help with that. I find no makers name, just Pat 50 in black paint. Size of frame is 17" X 20". Needs cleaning! Thanks! [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Not that I can help all that much, but a few questions/observations that occurred to me -

is the "design" in the corners scratched/carved into the wood or made of an inlay of some kind?

is the mitering of the other three corners as good a fit with the design as the one in the closeup?

Someone who knows something about this sort of thing will probably want to see a picture of the overall construction from the back.

I love these frames. The depth is what I really like. Can you measure or show from a side view how deep this one is?

Yes, all corners the same and the depth is right at 3". Corners design is carved. Thanks for the suggestions.[IMG]

Your pictures of the back and front (on the floor?) are too dark to see much detail. You might want to take natural light pictures next time you can take the frame outside.

Yes, I thought of that when I started tonight - tomorrow will be better. Thanks!

Appears to be an 1800s frame. Guessing 1870s or a little later.
Often Mahogany or Walnut, hard to tell from your picture.

Yep, Aesthetic. I owned one of these myself. The gilt liners always grab me.

Methinks mahogany. Get after it with a bit of Murphy's Oil Soap, and it will be gorgeous -- and OLD!
