Any Map People Here?

I bought an old town map today. Maybe someone can help with age. Has a few surrounding towns included and the back look canvas-sy. I don't see any dates on this map.

 

It's southwestern Rhode Island if anyone cares. It's smack on the CT/RI border and what's there now is...not much, unless you count I95.

 

A close-up of that big town would probably be more helpful.

One clue is Westerly State Airport.

Ok found some things on the map. In Westerly RI Woody Hill Reservation(Woody Hill Management was called a Reservation from 1934 until it was formally s State forest in 1942.

Carolina Reservation after the 1675 Great Swamp massacre and the the historic tribal lands were actioned off during the 19th century detribalization.

NYNY and Hartford RR had tracks in town that were used from 1872-1968.
Also Pendleton Hill School in North Stonington CT ran from 1895-1955.
Burlingame Reservation in Charlestown RI, late 20's until in transitioned to a state park. So I think I have a 1920-1930s map.

 

Looks like linen/muslin backing on it. I found an undated old globe here a while back-why some of these aren't dated is a mystery to me .
The generous members here thru a ton of cartographic sleuthing dated it to early-mid 1920's. What a team !

I like Bumpin Hill. Any history there? Is it Bumpin or Bumpin' Hill? I prefer the latter.

 

Ola, Our story would not be complete without a brief mention of the now-defunct scout camping area at the end of White Rock Road in Westerly. A 165-acre parcel known then as “Bumpin Hill” was offered to the Quequatuck Scouts to use, free of charge, by its owner, F. Samuel Nardone in 1949. The scout officers planned to develop a long-term program for the use and conservation of this land, but their plans never came to fruition. Aside from soliciting suggestions for a camp name, the history of the Bumpin Hill campground is a short one. A coldwater spring on the property was said to provide water pure enough for drinking, and tall oaks rising 164 feet above sea level had survived the 1938 hurricane. Nardone passed away in 1968 and the property has changed hands many times over the last fifty years. Signs of some quarrying operations can be seen on the property, but it is evident that the scouts moved on years ago.

Bosko, thanks for helping date this map. Going to contact a place in Boston that buys old maps,

 

I can tell you that the font, style, contour lines, etc on your map are the same as the federal government's "7.5 minute" map system, published by the USGS.

My university was a "Map Repository" and had these detailed maps, on paper, for the entire US. I used to search them for places to go fishing.

I consider myself a cartophile.

 

Ok, bad new. I talked to a map guy. What this is, is a topographical map. These came in sheets. These sheets were trimmed and attached to the linen backing. So my cool looking map is actually nothing.

 

Sorry... Don't get it. That's what it looks to be. Were you expecting something else?

They spread them around to most colleges during the Cold War, just in case. I found one once, framed, and bought it because my friend's street was on it. One guess what went out for his next yard sale. The golf poster, signed by his favorite player, from the GHO...now that ain't going nowhere.(LOL)
